So far my week on second shift has reminded me why I loved it and why I didn't love it. Wake up around noon, drive to work before rush-hour traffic appears and goes all batshit insane, and show up in time for all the managers heading home, leaving me to work at my own pace almost completely unsupervised. But it also means everything except Walmart is closed when I get out of work, and Friday nights are shot. This is a problem, for as many conventions that I go to a year. Unless I can arrange a permanent 4-10 work schedule to be off on Fridays then it would be cool otherwise I'd be chewing through all my vacation time fast. It's all hypothetical, since I'm going back on 1st next week.

Yesterday I picked up both the Rozen Maiden and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni boxsets. Unlike the Haruhi boxset which was a bonanza of extras, there's no real goodies inside, but they're both nice. The Higurashi one features all of the main females in Angel Mort outfits, and the Rozen Maiden box is really fuzzy. Fuzzy in a good way.

Coolness (regarding the sets). I keep hearing nothing but good on Haruhi, but I haven't heard any reviews on Rozen Maiden.

There's a lot of good word out there on Rozen Maiden. It was a surprise for me because when it originally came out, I didn't think it would interest me at all. Then I actually watched it, and enjoyed it greatly. Then I showed it at my anime club, and everyone loved it.

Rozen Maiden is beautiful and I'd say the story was ok. The ok comes from this show is not they type I really enjoy, mainly because the main male character doesn't have a "choice." Shows like that rub me the wrong way.

Don't get me wrong, lots of people like the show. I'm just not one of them.

Lol I tend to not call those "Boxsets" and simply "The first volume with a box for the others". It's really a trap, because they are like "pay an extra 12 dollars for this shiny box, which will probably come out with all three dvds in it already next year anyway!"

Bah. It's all in where you look. I only paid an extra $5 for the pretty box, which I know won't be as pretty when they release all of them at once in a year or two anyway.

So yeah, that's what it all pretty much boils down to; I can afford a prettier box.

But that happens in about half of all anime anyway? A better example of that would be in something like Girls Bravo. Or Love Hina, which I thought was almost a case study of domestic abuse.

I think he always did have a choice. If it were to happen to Magical Anime Bob, and Shinku would bother me for tea, I'd probably end up rolling a 2-liter bottle of store-brand ice tea her way instead of making it. But that's highly unlikely, because I would have teamed up with SuiginTou from the start instead.

LOL, ok let's all stop saying "box" for a while. It doesnt help my mind from wandering. While the 5 dollas for the... rectangular containment receptical... may not have been much, you also have to factor in you have the buy the other 2 or more DVDS at SRP, which is always more than just buying the rectangleset all together. Me, I'm an anime purchaser, but I'm also a cheapskate.

Nonono. For as much variety as there is out there in places to buy, MSRP is irrelevant. Being a cheapskate is only worth something if you know where to look.
