Eh, I think it'll be a third year in a row that I don't go to Neko-con. I was hoping I would go, but AnimeUSA stuff has been eating about half my weekends, and the precious few that remain usually go to something else.

Went to the PA RenFaire on Sunday! I went in my regular clothes, jeans and t-shirt, so I called myself Bob the Eternal. It's the same thing I wore when I hitched a ride with Christopher Columbus, and the same thing I wore when the Pyramids were still being built. Or at least that's my story.

Ghost Stories:
It's that show that tried to be like "Haunted Junction" but didn't get anywhere. Now, the kicker: I watched the English dub of it, which was closer to a fan parody than anything else. And the dub is what justified this show. The original dialogue and storyline has all the flavor of drywall, and when ADV was dubbing this, they knew that, so they decided to have some fun. It's like what happened with Shinesman, except ratcheted up a few notches.

Solty Rei:
Hey, I remember seeing this before. No wait, this was made of leftover cliches that didn't get recycled for the 2005 fall season. Or maybe I'm just being too critical. I'll watch more later.

Jigoku Shoujo:
This show is about sending people to hell. The catch is, if you enlist the aid of the title character to exact revenge on someone, you also go to hell after you die. Thanks, but no thanks. Interesting concept for a show makes it worth watching, but if I had the choice, I'd rather handle my problems in DIY fashion.

Hunter x Hunter:
This show is about how to stoke the yaoi doujinshi industry. Is that right? Or is it about some kids that try to get licenses to become Hunters for whatever personal reason? Or both?

Uwahh what else did I watch recently.... Eh, I'll think of it later.

La la la. La. I think I shall get to encoding the PV for Yuko Sasaki's "Pure Snow". I don't remember seeing it online anywhere in any form, so hey, why not. Due to the eventual size, I'm probably going to post it behind a FO entry or something. Or torrent it, or have someone torrent it or something. Anyone interested in it either way?

Right then, off to bed.

After a brief departure from Yonder Internets thanks to a cable modem that decided to crap out, I have returned. It would explain why I haven't been on AIM 24/7 for about a week. But all's well that ends well. During the slight downtime, I would get email and torrents and such from the hotspot at Starbucks across town, as opposed to camping out at Borders or Kinko's. Yes, I, a non-coffee drinker, at a Starbucks. But I already said why I was there, and that's why I don't hate the place.

More Air stuff:

Watched the movie, which had me all WTF, but at the same time explained more of the original story by taking a slightly alternate course by concentrating on Misuzu/Yukito, getting overly dramatic at times. However, I think that the movie helps explain the series, and the series helps explain the movie. And then there's the Summer Specials, focusing on Kanna's escape. There were a few serious spots, but for the most part, it reminded me of the Three Stooges. To that end, I offer another Air micro-fic:

Kanna: I am sad and lon-GAH!!
::several minutes later::
Brock Samson: Hey, I found something stuck in one of the engines.
Doctor Venture: Her again? That's the fifth time this month!
Kanna: Insolence! ::throws rocks but they land on her head again::

The end. Maybe I should quit hanging around on the other side of the sky.

Hungry, but not for fast food. I allow myself fast food only a couple times a month, and I already met that quota. I will probably lower that quota next month.

Sorry, not so much in the way of deep philosophy and ponderances on life and the universe this time, and yes I've been slacking in peppering my journal with mp3's. More later!

Probably the only thing I wanted to say in this entry is that I watched all 13 episodes of the "Air" series, most of it in one sitting. It was good, yet sad. I felt inspired enough to write a fanfiction, albeit a very short one, but with a celebrity guest appearance! Here goes:

Kanna: Stupid arrows!
Mick Jagger: Hey, you! Get offa my cloud!
Kanna: STFU! ::throws rocks but gets hit on head by them::

The end. Oh, the things one sees on the other side of the sky.

Whether you get it or not, the end result is the same, and I won't apologize. Anyway, I shall finish this up and then go and watch the Air movie and the Summer Specials.

Past weekend was fun, saw lots of anime and friends and family and ate lots of food on Easter. Here's a rundown of what I watched:

Yaiba:
Low budget as can be, but rather than take away the fun, it adds to it. A kid learning to be a samurai to fight an impending big bad guy, lotsa laughs along the way.

Secret of Cerulean Sand:
So it's the 19th century Victorian England, and there's this young girl born into a wealthy family that must own half of England. Based on a Jules-Verne novel, it tried to be Miyazaki-esque, it really did. But the only one who can pull that off is Miyazaki himself.

Naaja:
Great, another "young girl on an adventure of a lifetime" gig. Main character is 12 years old, but at least she doesn't look disturbingly overdeveloped. Meanwhile there's a Tuxedo Mask-like character running about, doing a Robin Hood schtick. Set in the same country and time period as Secret of Cerulean Sand. Maybe the main characters of each show will happen across each other? I don't know.

Machine Robo Rescue:
Ok, a bunch of 10-12 year old kids that can pilot some mostly-sentient robots makes for a really long toy commercial. Obvious CG going on there.

Scrapped Princess:
Princess on the run from a world that wants her dead. I can dig it. Character design has a tried-but-true look to it; Studio Bones is using what works. Looking forward to more.

DNAngel:
Some kid with an alter ego as an angelic thief. Looks like something worth investigating further.

Ninja Scroll TV series:
Like the movie, but not as bloody, cause it's going on tv. But Jubei still kicks ass, and the supporting characters are no less freaky than in the movie.

Last Exile:
21st century technology in a 19th century setting. It looked like it took a lot of inspiration from Final Fantasy games. Animation style looks the same, too.

Dear Boys:
Slam Dunk, but with the bishounen settings cranked way, WAY up. Just what the world needs, more yaoi fodder. Although, it did inspire a new Anime Law: When fast techno music is playing in the background, the hero's chances of succeeding at his task increase astronomically.

Air Master:
Ok, the main character is a schoolgirl that's close to 7 feet tall. Ok, I have no problem with that. She can kick ass by using her mastery of gymnastics and air currents. No problem there either. But why the two-foot kid who's constantly bawling her head off? Fighting opponents who give speeches for (what feels like) days at a time? A girl who has massive breasts providing the sole comedic effect? Why?

Anyway.

Fixed my laptop. New keyboard and PRAM battery, took mere minutes to install.

Had an interesting dream the other night, where there was a mysterious disease going around, and the only symptom was that the victim's eyes would gradually turn gray over a period of several days. When the eyes turned completely gray, they would die. It spread randomly, and the only exception was that if the victim already had gray eyes, then they would turn blue, producing the same end result. So in this dream, I asked my sister what color my eyes were. She knew why I was asking. "Don't worry", she said. "They're gray, like they've always been."

After waking up, I looked in the mirror, at my blue eyes...

Fortunately, dream logic subsides rather quickly. Just not as quick that morning.
