yamikochan is getting worked on over the weekend, I got a loaner car to cruise around in. Usually I consider myself grateful to get a loaner at all, as long as it's something self-propelled with four wheels. But this is madness. The loaner car in her place is an '06 TL with a navigation system. Thirty-five grand worth of gimmicks and high-priced special effects. The rear windows leapt up with a touch like frogs in a dynamite pond. The dashboard was full of esoteric lights and dials and meters that I would never understand.
And then there's the 3000RPM benchmark. That is to say, how fast the car is going with that engine speed and in top gear. The Subaru I used to have chugged along at a frugal 55. Both Ai and Yamiko cruise at around a sane and reasonable 70. The 300ZX I had for a couple years strutted at a robust 75. The TL? I might never know, because at about 2500RPM, it was roaring up the highway at close to 90.
Anime Mid Atlantic was fun, and I should have made a full weekend of it. Aside from the buzz into the dealers room (which was kinda weaksauce), the only con-related activity I took part in was the Kristine Sa concert, which was worth it. She remembers me from AUSA. Then for the drive home, I had to remind myself that I am no longer in my early 20s on a second-shift sleep schedule. I spent a good bit of time at a rest area for the tactical snooze.
After two episodes, Black Lagoon looks promising. Very promising. Chock full of that "there's no way in hell that could really happen" kind of action.
