Some animu con blatherings.
Apr. 9th, 2009 03:18 amSome thoughts on Tekkoshocon:
It reminds me of Otakon when they moved into the BCC ten years ago (holy hell it's been that long now), what with suddenly having space by the acreage. And I remember at the very first Tekko when someone asked when they'd move into the convention center downtown, and everyone on staff at closing ceremonies laughed. The joke is no longer on that anonymous who asked that question. Wait, it still is, because they asked if they were moving there the next year. But honestly, I miss the ExpoMart where it was for a couple years. Everything was more laid-back there. Then again I also miss Otakon when they were in Hunt Valley.
Anyway, there were no casualties this weekend, which is a good thing. Now looking forward:
Next up is CHS Otakufest, which is taking place in a high school. After that I'll probably go to Balticon, doing what I've done before, which is jump in on Saturday, close a pool or two, and go home that evening.
I'm sort of entertaining the idea of going to Anime Next. I figure it's a reasonable distance away, and on what would be a 3-day weekend for me, or possibly AMA which is further away (but when has that stopped me) and on a regular weekend (I repeat). On the other hand, I already go to a zillion of these a year and can think of plenty of other uses for 3-day weekends, especially in the middle of June. Probability would be about a 2 on a scale of 1 to 5. So, anyone that is going or is thinking of going, don't count me in just yet because this is all highly speculative and theoretical at this point. I reserve the right to say to hell with it and do something else that suits me at any time.
