Dec. 8th, 2010 07:00 amEach year it's the same thing. The run-up to Christmas and New Year's, with its messages and intentions crammed down everyone's throats like fruitcake made from spackle and broken glass, will inevitably not sit well with some people. Fortunately I've managed to avoid that syndrome, by knowing that those two holidays will come and go, that I'm not going to force myself or anyone to go berserk with presents, nor am I expected to, and after it's all done, the weather is still going to suck ass for the next three months afterward anyway no matter what was just celebrated. I've had ups and downs myself but I'm still alive, so I count that as coming out ahead. Nevertheless, I do see how some people can and will get depressed and/or annoyed this time of year, and I make the effort to not run around like a crazed lunatic in a Santa hat with "Merry Christmas" written in blood on a chainsaw and a Joker smile arc-welded to my face, threatening people to cheer up or else they get sodomized by a fully-decorated pine tree. Some days I slip, but I try my best.
Generally, I avoid being a dick about it.
At this point, I feel I must link to this video not out of nostalgia or general weirdness, but as a public service message.
Unfortunately it cuts off the end early and the video quality is barely watchable, but trust me, there's plenty enough to get the message across.
