Small things:

-mSATA drives tend to get hot.

-Whenever I get a new external enclosure for hard drives, I have a bad habit of leaving them partially disassembled in order to expedite swapping hard drives around. A couple of them have been stripped down to the bridgeboard.

-Some of my newer computers leave the USB ports powered, even when the main system is off. This is a documented feature and can be disabled if desired. Handy for charging USB devices.

-A gadget I picked up in Japan is a USB power meter. It shows how much voltage the port is supplying and how much current the device plugged in is drawing. It has already helped to weed out a very weak USB charger.

-I found an old e-PC that was in storage for 9 years. It has Windows 2000 on a 10GB hard drive, and won't take more than 128MB of RAM. It takes 5 minutes to boot up. The Wayback Machine has a similar processor and OS but isn't as slow.

-Trying out Ubuntu! Mixed success with it. Close but no cigar. I think I'll have to leave Ubuntu/Mint behind. More on this later.

-I've had an SSD in my laptop for 4 years now. SSDs are the bee's knees. The utility says it's had about 7TB of write cycles on it so far. Given that these can withstand over 1000TB of write cycles, that means at my current rate of use, it'll last about 500 years. It's more likely I'll run out of space on it.

-I considered something of a road trip, even if it's just a weekend thing. The Wanderbeast raised its head, let out a dismissive "mrf", and went back to sleep. It knows there are other things I need to be doing this summer. It also knows the girls are in need of a bit of work.

-Speaking of the girls, they have both decided that if they don't need air conditioning to function, then neither do I, despite my vocal disagreement. Getting that fixed at a mechanic is $$$$+. If I could DIY-it, it would be only $$$, or maybe $$ if I'm lucky.

-I got another camera lens. It's a pancake lens, meaning it's very low-profile, sticking out in front of my camera by only an inch. It's also very inexpensive as camera lenses go: After using a gift card, it was $30. New, not used or refurb.

-Entries and comments have been imported from LJ. It was about as successful as I had expected. The entries and most comments transferred over, as did inline pictures. Embedded Youtube links needed manual repair, and I lost 3/4 of my icons. Not that I used many of them lately.

-Not sure what to do about the LJs for Ai/Nozomi/Yamiko, or Gil's. Both Ai and Nozomi have since moved to Twitter. Gil and Yamiko's LJs may remain as-is for the time being.

-That's about it for now.
