One of my next door neighbors from when I was living in the trailer works at a local hardware store. Sometimes when I'm in that store, and she's working there, we'll talk about how the neighborhood is doing. I learned (what used to be) my trailer is now being rented out to an elderly lady who moved out from a nursing home. I think it's a good place for someone like that, and not just because I lived there. It's compact enough that it's not too much to keep up on, yet has just enough personal space for some independence and autonomy. I hope she enjoys living there. For what it's worth, when I was still living there, I noticed the main demographic was skewing older. It wouldn't surprise me if the park eventually becomes a de facto 55+ community.

A few nights ago, on my way home from work, I stopped at a certain department/grocery store that's open 24 hours, to purchase a monitor mount for one of my multitude of projects. What could have been an in-and-out transaction ended up taking over half an hour due to one of the employees. This is not in a bad way, mind you. The employee assisted me because they had monitor mounts in 3 different areas, and once I picked one out, we started a conversation.

As it turned out, I learned that she and her husband were both working there at nights while taking classes during the day, with some struggle due to an admitted learning disability, and she talked about her 3 kids (2 of whom also have a learning disability). I was impressed by her determination to take on the uphill battle to find a better life for her family, and I wish her luck.

Meanwhile, back at the house, I acquired a drill press to faciliate bringing some ideas to fruition. The first thing I used it for was to build the soldering sub-station I had an idea for. It doesn't hold the iron itself, instead it holds spare tips, solder spools, plus whatever other possible accessories. It's made of mostly aluminum. Easy to machine, yet sturdy enough for this purpose, and being a big chunk of metal means it can soak away heat from a swapped out iron tip without creating a fire hazard.

There's something uplifting about visualizing an idea, working to make it happen, and then seeing tangible results.
