Finally got Nozomi inspected a couple weeks ago. No issues found, which is great for a car with close to 300k miles. Also because I put about a grand into the exhaust, just in parts. Sure would suck if I missed something. Inspection is now good to the end of March next year. I'll try to squeeze it into April. One of the things that gets checked at inspection is the gas cap, to make sure it doesn't let gas vapors escape. I still had the old one, and I asked if they could check that. They said it was fine and there might have just been some bits of dirt on the gasket, preventing it from sealing right. I guess I have a spare gas cap now. She also seems to be content with the non-OEM catalytic converter and non-OEM O2 sensors. We'll see how those do in the long run. Next order of business is to start breaking down her old exhaust, which will almost certainly involve the use of a reciprocating saw.

Other tasks: There's also the remaining spare knuckle I got from ebay that I've started to clean up and prepare for Ai. On closer inspection, the ball-joint, hub, and bearing did need replaced. I know how to replace those, and I have the spare parts. Were I to slap it on as-is and discover I should have replaced them, I would have felt mighty silly. This is feasible now that the garage isn't cold enough to be a giant freezer. Funfact: Each wheel bearing has a total of 28 balls. BALLS OF STEEL.

I need to clean up my electronics/model-building workbench. It's covered in parts and bits and small tools and various small quantities of lubricants and adhesives, much of it all for highly specific purposes and uses for weird projects, for things that may or may not be low-key magic. The same could be said about the workbench in the garage. It's like I've become some kind of wizard, in the context of what a wizard's workspace would be like.

Recently I got an X-Y table for a project. If I get one from a company that specializes in milling equipment, I'd expect to pay at least $400. I got a generic one from ebay for $35, and I got $35 worth of X-Y table.

Last year I tried out some airbrushing and I enjoyed it. Right away, even with no prior experience, I was getting better results with the airbrush than I ever got with spray cans. As with any painting method where the paint itself is aerosolized and travels some distance, there's always the chance of the paint going where it shouldn't. So I got myself a portable spray hood with a built-in fan and filter, and the whole thing folds up into a small suitcase-looking thing. I also have a half-face respirator with cartridge filters, because I don't hate myself so much that I'm willing to inhale paint. Why stop there? I could also go as far as making an ersatz spray booth out of plastic sheeting and lumber or PVC pipe.

"My Bride is a Mermaid" anime: I really wish I watched this when it aired in 2007. I'm glad I did watch this, even if it took almost 14 years to get around to. This was a Good Anime. A lot of fun to watch.

It is now Spring and I've kicked off the season by getting the first of two shots of the covid vaccine. More on that debacle later.
