Only a few weeks after I get Nozomi back on the road, her clutch starts acting up. More like just the hydraulics, not the parts that reside between the engine and transmission. I'm not mad, the parts in question are known to fail eventually, and I have the means of fixing it. The old parts are out, the new parts are in, and the problem seems to be resolved. If that didn't fix it, that would have meant dropping the gearbox to replace the clutch itself that only has about 70k miles, and I would have had a Big Sad.

Now that Nozomi is as sorted as she'll be, it's time to work on Ai again. Her oil consumption is dangerously high: She's going through a quart every 300-400 miles. Some of it gets into the combustion chamber to be burned off. Most of it just oozes out past every gasket and seal. I'm half tempted to just buy a whole engine, clean and prepare it, and then drop that in when the time comes. I've looked at the prices of them and they're reasonable. I have an engine hoist for a reason and I'm not afraid to use it. There's nothing logical or pragmatic about working on older cars. It's entirely emotional. It's a luxury that I can afford to have.

Other news: I have gotten my second vaccination shot and it's been the two weeks since. It's also possible that there will be a need for booster shots eventually, to account for the variants and mutations and otherwise keep the immune system on its toes. I'm fine with that too. I suffered no real side effects from either shot, and if I did, I'd rather have that than actually getting sick.

Working on my mom's computer, because something went haywire. Windows had magically deactivated itself and all of the bits and bytes involved with activation had vanished. In theory I could have put Windows 10 on it but it wouldn't be a happy camper because the hardware is from 2008, and the most RAM it can handle is 4GB and holds back about 600MB for the onboard video, even though there's a card installed for that. That wasn't a problem back then because that was more than enough for XP. I decided reinstalling W7 on an SSD was the best option. Except when I did a fresh install, that wouldn't activate either. I do not remember having this much trouble when installing Windows 7 the first time. Or ever. I also discovered the DVD drive failed, which of course needed replaced before I could install Windows. The BIOS/CMOS battery on the motherboard also needed replaced. The RAM failed MemTest; good thing I had spare sticks. The hits keep coming! I'm also thinking the hardware might be a bit too old to properly handle an SSD. Or maybe I need to re-re-install W7 now that the gimped parts were replaced. I'm confident I can get this working again but I'm already planning out the next build.
