Nov. 5th, 2022 06:59 amMy timing for getting the booster shot around Labor Day was well-planned. When it became available, I gave it some thought, thinking "do I want this before or after the Phoenix trip when I get herded through busy airports and put on crowded airplanes for several hours at a time?" I came to the appropriate conclusion in less time than it took for me to type that. When it came time to make the appointment, the local CVS was able to take me the next day. Walk in, take the jab, walk out.
At work, I still have some vacation time to use up by the year's end, so I'm doing the "every Friday off for the rest of the year" thing. No one else has my problem of what to do with the vacation time I have, but they all wish they did. Yeah well, it took 20 years for me to create that problem.
Things I need to do to Ai soon:
-Thermostat. This is important if I want to have heat in the colder months. It's not the first time this has needed replaced, and I know what's involved in replacing it. Part = ready.
-Rear brakes. When going in reverse, there's a groan coming from the rear wheels. The brakes are still safe but they're definitely getting close to the end. The front brakes do most of the stopping anyway. Parts = ready.
-Oil change. A normal thing. Usually. Oil filter and oil = ready.
-Driver's side knuckle. The replacement knuckle I got some time ago was basically rebuilt, with new wheel bearing, hub, ball joint, splash shield. The passenger side is already done. Part = ready.
Once I start digging in, I'll almost certainly find something else that needs fixed. I'm ready for that. I can accept that. That's the reason I bought a house with a garage. Cars that are breathing hard on 600k miles are going to need things and that's just how it is.
Next year's travel plans: The last 5 states. No reason not to at this point. What's left after that is maybe going to some of the territories, then going to other countries. Relatedly, renewing Global Entry was a lot faster and easier than the initial application.
