ba-baaaam, ba-baaaam, BA-BAAAAM!
Dec. 18th, 2002 12:34 amWhew... I can finally claim victory against the unplayability of copy-protected cds. It was a long and perilous journey, and there were costs, such as hard drive space on my mom's computer suddenly vanishing. 60 megs disappearing on mine is barely noticeable, but that's about a quarter of the total space on the other, which was instrumental in the victory. Trucking raw AIFF files back and forth sharing a single ZIP drive and disk, trying to get each computer to accept hot-swapping with SCSI devices. So I guess I have to clean up the mess I made with my mom's computer. And the two cds in question now have big black rings on the data side. The mystical Sharpie method is important, although I needed to also use a drive that had different laser qualities. So why did I go through all this trouble? Because, if I have it in my car for any significant length of time, I know it's going to get battered. The conditions inside a car are harsh, and I've already seen originals get worn out because of that. Naturally, I'm going to avoid getting such cds in the first place ever again.
Ah, I know I'll have to go back to Baltimore for some reason during the week. Not sure when, it's all flexible as far as I can tell. A few loose ends, I would say. But of course come the first of the year, I'll be there again, ready to dive into what life has in store for me, albeit short a couple mental parts. For now, I'm going to prepare to dive into tomorrow with full night's sleep. Oyasumi nasai!
