Dec. 3rd, 2019 04:17 amRecently, I learned about Zorin OS. When it comes to Linux, hope springs eternal, but a glutton for punishment always gets his fill. Anyway from what I read on it, it supposedly came with WINE built-in, so it can run Windows stuff. Alrighty then. So I get the latest distro, install it, and find out... WINE isn't included anymore and I have to install that myself. Apparently it was yanked out in an effort to be more secure to appeal to enterprise customers. That doesn't really help me. Well what the fuck? Where's the hook now? Guess I'm sticking with Windows 7.
When the updates for Windows 7 stop, that doesn't mean it'll stop working entirely. I'll keep using it anyway, because it does what I ask it to do. Now if I have to build a new computer, I'll be out of luck because new hardware won't work with it, not without a lot of weird tricks. Look, I'm just trying to run some .exe programs like 3D Custom Girl or Custom Maid 3D. Security isn't high on that list of priorities. I just want something that WORKS. It's like, someone could make the safest car in the world, but if it doesn't move or get to normal road speeds, then it's of no use and all the extra safety is for naught. I'd much rather have something that will let me hoon around and have fun.

Meanwhile, the current internet fascination is a Hungarian comic strip from the 50s to 1970 called "Jucika" (not pronounced how it looks). I honestly have no idea how this burst out of obscurity after almost 50 years to become popular in this day and age, and I'm impressed that someone kept the original comics for this long, but the internet is nothing if not full of surprises. The comic strips are quality content so I have no reason to complain.

Meanwhile, the dude who sells LDs at conventions but I only see him at Otakon? Turns out he also sells them online via FB. A quick message, a couple clicks in Paypal, and he's sending me 3 LDs of the 90s-as-fuck anime "Compiler". He didn't have the 4th LD, which is just a bunch of music videos and doesn't add anything to the series, so I'm ok with not getting that.

That brings up a different matter. Without going into what the anime is about, I'll say it's fairly obscure but not unheard of. It received a brief licensing run back when stuff was coming out on both VHS and DVD. After ADV went under, no one bothered to do a license rescue on it. The only used copies I've found are the VHS ones. How about the R2 DVD from Japan? Nope, that seems to have been lost in time there too. There are torrents out there, and I found one that worked, so there is that.
I also found the first couple episodes on my server, in the "anime" folder where it's supposed to be, at the top of the directory. Right under my goddamn nose. Just as well too, because any search for this anime gives me a couple results about the anime and then a lot of results about programming.
Even in this day and age, with every anime made in the past 10 years being available in multiple ways, there are going to be things from longer ago that slip through the cracks and become borderline forgotten. Who knows, maybe in the year 2045 someone will find this anime and whatever the internet will have evolved into then will go nuts for it.
