psipsyThe more I think about it, the more appealing the idea of a separate diorama is. I could design it so it would line up with the main layout, or stand on its own. It would be like an exit off a major highway that happens to have a cluster of gas stations/truck stops/restaurants. A liminal space in HO scale.
I need more DCC decoders. Many of the newer locomotives I have are equipped with boards with little sockets for decoders. To enable them to run on plain DC, they have little sub-boards with diodes on them. Those get removed to make way for the decoders. There's one that I'm trying to wire up for both DCC and sound but that's proving to be tricky because many of the parts are so small.
This year's Anime Weekend Atlanta was canceled after all. That was supposed to take place in the end of October. A lot of cons that are scheduled for as late as December are also falling off the calendar. There probably won't be any conventions at all the rest of this year. At the rate things are going, I'll be surprised if Katsucon isn't impacted. After all, these are events with thousands or tens of thousands of people in close proximity.
Look, I don't consider myself an alarmist type, but opening the schools at this point is probably not a good idea. It would be much like a gasoline tanker truck spilling its load in a dried-out drought-stricken forest, and then the driver has a few smokes while deciding what to do. If/when vaccines for this become available to the public, I'll get one. I'll be holding my arm out like a junkie who heard there was free smack. If I catch it before then, I don't know what will happen. Maybe my body will fight it off quickly and easily enough that I don't notice. Maybe it'll kick my ass. You know what? I'd rather not find out.
I also have to say this about masks: I've been wearing them at the job I've had for almost 19 years and never had a problem. Neither have any of my coworkers. Anyone who says they can't breathe while wearing a mask is either near the top of the waiting list for a lung transplant, or they're full of shit. Most likely, the latter.
