In which I wax philosophical and nostalgic for entirely too long about anime conventions:

This was originally posted sometime in September of 2020, and I kept meaning to link it here. If you're not into anime conventions, you can skip it. If you're short on time or you get bored easily you can skip it. It's a long read. There was a lot on my mind about it, and I had to put it somewhere.

Speaking of nostalgia: Word is they're going to make another TV series for Urusei Yatsura. I'm looking forward to this.

I need to get into airbrushing more. I got one of those portable hood things, with a built-in fan and filter. Something else I'm planning is to set up some plastic sheeting in the garage to make a temporary ad hoc paint booth to all but eliminate overspray, keeping it from getting where it shouldn't. (I do have a respirator for this.) It's also a matter of making sure no cars are present. Because I'm persnickety like that.

Last month I went to another model train show, and found a used locomotive for cheap. I get it home and found it needs some new parts. It was not the seller's fault; a bunch of old locos I've had for about 30 years are also in need of the same new parts. Same type and vintage. Nature of the beast. At least getting the new parts old Athearns is easy.

In a recent visit to the used bookstore (that also sells music and anime): A CD of "Maximum Luxury Overdose" by Army of Lovers, and 4/5 of the DVD set of the anime "Trouble Chocolate", the first volume of which was being sold for the budget-busting price of 35 cents. A few mouse clicks on Ebay provided the missing volume. I've heard it was not a good anime. However, I'm taking that opinion with a grain of salt because everyone who has said it wasn't good were just a bunch of snobs.

I recently ordered a pile of music CDs from Japan. Some MOSAIC.WAV, some Nanahira. Some new, some used. The used stuff is at Suruga-ya, and for cheap. They even have Laserdiscs! They had a few rarities I was looking for. I was once again reminded that shipping LDs from Japan is expensive because they're big and can get very heavy. Reminds me, I need to fix my LD player. Again. Same problem as before. At least I have the spare parts, or at least most of them. The worst part of it is getting to them. It requires taking the cover and back panel off, and removing about 20 screws in the process. What I'll probably do is modify the board so it has an wired holder for the fuse, and sockets for the sidac (surge diode) so I don't have to take out the board and resolder, and all I'd have to do is take off the cover. Maybe next time.
