Some of the things I found at Otakon:

DVD set of Saber Marionette J-X. I was looking for this one. I already have SM-J, SM-R, and I have SM-J-Again on tape somewhere (as well as downloaded). There were a bunch of other DVD/BDs that I got, that fell into the category of "could have bought them online but might as well get them at Otakon while I was there".

A few LaserDiscs, not as many as in previous years. Including a couple Studio Ghibli movies on LD: Kiki's Delivery Service and Only Yesterday. Sure, I could have just as easily bought the BD sets of those for what I paid for their respective LDs, and they would have been translated too, but I dunno, maybe I just like the analog feel when watching old movies.

LaserDiscs are like the classic car of video formats. They were the best for their time, have great aesthetics, full of nostalgia, and they're a great conversation piece. They also require more care with how they're stored and handled, they can take up a lot of room, working players for them aren't easy to find (and good luck if it needs parts), and for general use, newer formats are undeniably better. LaserDiscs are mostly collectibles at this point. While I have a few things on LD that never made it to newer formats, most of what's in my collection is on something newer.

Doujinshi. 'Nuff said.

There has been a trend in recent years at anime cons where there are now vendors there for the exclusive purpose of selling fudge and other confections. I am fine with this.

I learned of a place just outside DC that sells taiyaki. On my way home from Otakon on Sunday, I decided to stop by and check it out. The batter they used reminds me of funnel cakes, which isn't a bad thing. This is the sort of thing I'd be more likely to stop at when I'm on my way to Katsucon.

Otakon's room block for next year already opened and sold out almost instantly. I think I'm going to keep going with commuting for the time being.
