psipsy: (don pachi!)

The subject kinda says it all, really. Today was fun, I was suddenly invited to spend the day with a bunch of friends, and there was much goofing off and conversing and playing of "Apples to Apples".

Tomorrow we're going to an AUSA staff meeting. While I like everyone on staff, and it's been fun, I think that 2006 may be a sabbatical year from staffing any cons. I'll see how that works. I'm deciding on doing this now so that I don't get all the way to the point of burnout, if I'm not already there. I've seen it happen before, and it ain't pretty. I want to avoid that. Like I said, it's nothing against the con itself, I'm just starting to think that I'm expending more and more time and effort working at cons in order to promote a conventiong that...I'm going to be working at. I know that there are others that put in far more than I could imagine, and that's admirable at the least. But, I'm not one of those others, and I just think that the time is coming to take a step back for the time being, especially on good terms with everyone. I'll still offer up any wisdom and advice and a helping hand or two, but I would also like to be able to go to a convention and enjoy it more often, and otherwise give my over-taxed, over-used, over-stretched, over-worked attention span that much more slack. I will need to give this more thought.

As for conventions in general, I see more and more of them shifting towards aiming for one big musical guest, almost at the expense of the rest of the convention. This is unfortunate, because the resulting concert event is unable to accomodate everyone attending, and because often so much of the con events have been cannibalized in order to make the concert happen, there results quite a bit of people wandering around with no idea on what else to do. We went through this several years ago during the big cosplay craze, with some conventions like Katsucon giving in and becoming one of the bigger cosplay cons, and others like AWA on the far extreme opposite end, getting rid of the cosplay (and all of the logistical headaches) entirely. AWA's claim to fame is being a party-con big on AMV's anyway. On top of all that, we don't really know if conventions get bigger because of the big musical name or because of the general popularity. Granted, there are some instances where someone would only go to a convention because of that. (I was really wanting to go to AX this year because of Kotoko, but didn't go. Endpoint: I didn't go.) So, convention budgets are going more and more towards getting something that may or may not help towards boosting attendance. And with the number of cons reaching the living end of what facilities are available to them, it certainly can't be driven by competition.

Bleh, I should stop now.

Okusama wa Joshikosei (My wife is a high-schooler):
Reaction upon seeing title: what
Reaction upon seeing opening credits: what
If anything, the main character is cute, and voiced by Ayako Kawasumi. That's worth a point or two. But! I'm probably getting too bitter, cynical, and generally callous about happy-sappy romance, in this instance where a young couple gets married but still hasn't done the wild thing because of something pointless. If I had a wife like that, I'd have her in bed as soon as the wedding dress came off. A wife is a wife, and marriage is marriage. As soon as she says "I do", the only thing the in-laws can do is back off. Again, I ramble. Eh, I don't think this anime is for me. I got about halfway through one episode, and even then I needed to watch it in small doses. I'm probably gonna stick to something like School Rumble (goofiness) or Kore ga Watashi no Goshujin-sama (mindless fanservice) or... Dokuro-chan!

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan:
Going in line with one of the laws of anime that state that the human body contains no less than 12 gallons of blood and under high pressure, this is a splatter fest. While not as gory as other anime, it certainly is one of the most graphic, with decapitations, arterial sprays, crushed skulls, brain matter flying every which way... Oh, did I mention that this is a comedy? About a boy named Sakura, who is supposedly going to do something to violate the laws of nature 20 years from now, so angels are sent to prevent that! By killing him, of course. Ironically enough, the one that repeatedly kills him (and subsequently brings him back to life) is the one that decides to alter his future so that he doesn't create a youth formula preventing women from aging past 12. It is fun to watch, and the opening theme is catchy, and Dokuro-chan is cute.

In other news, I looked at the bazillion songs on my playlist and thought, I need some more funk. I mean... I mean, BIG PIMPMASTAH PHONK! That's what I'm talking about. Someone out there must know what's good. C'mon, throw me a bone here.

Speaking of music, it's time for a song! Lemme know what you think of this one.
Sometimes I hear strange noises coming from my basement. But since I don't have a basement here, that's quite disturbing.

Ok. I really should wrap up this entry because I'm running out of steam to power coherent thoughts.
