Right then, I'm back from Otakon. Lemme tell you, there's nothing quite like going to Old Country Buffet right after a convention. Or any kind of buffet for that matter.
So there I am in the dealers room on Sunday, less than an hour before it closes, and I'm standing at the Hen Da Ne table while wearing my "GaoGaoStegosaurus" shirt. Someone sees my shirt, and gets the reference. They think it's awesome. They ask me if they can take a picture of me. Flattered, I accept. As a side note, I saw at least three other people this weekend wearing the same shirt.
The room at the Hyatt was nice as usual, aside from the Mini-bar event, where a previous guest from months prior had put a plate of fruit in the fridge, presumably for a snack later on, forgot about it, and then it evolved into something more sinister. Thought about simply leaving the plate out in the hallway, but told housekeeping about it instead and let them take care of it.
Ayako Kawasumi stuff: A few years ago I got her "Primary" CD, which is very good. When Otakon announced her as a guest this year, I knew I not only had to go, but also to have her sign that. Tim and I went to her panel, and when that was over, we immediately zipped down to wait in line for her to autograph things. She thanked me for buying it, and remarked at how young she looked on the cover of it. (I dunno, she didn't look any older in person. Heh, I should have said that.) Main mission is a success!
And yeah, I got loot. Mostly some figures, a few doujin games, and some anime. And t-shirts. The only CD I picked up was the US release of KOTOKO's "Hane". Conspicuously absent from the dealers room was Digital Discs. Conspicuous indeed! Not like I would have bought something from them anyway, their latest offerings simply haven't been my cup of tea. There was also nobody selling the Hanaukyo manga that I was looking for. If anyone's doing one of those bookstore runs to NYC anytime soon, gimme a holler so that I can either tag along or put in an order or something.
Turns out Haruhi wasn't licensed, despite the promotional materials floating around for it. Kadokawa's gotten quite a few offers on it, though. But School Rumble was picked up, which makes me happy. Took someone long enough. Now I can pick it up on DVD, instead of downloading it, and crossing my fingers in hoping that it'll actually play correctly, if at all because of some funky new codec container. But, I have my ways.
Will likely get some overtime this week at work. And must also coordinate a way to get a couch from my mom's.
