May. 17th, 2007 12:05 amSometimes on my way home from work, I will stop at an electronics store, not the kind that sells giant plasma televisions, DVD players, or fancy stereo systems, but the kind that sells pieces, parts, components, and implements of repair. I have yet to walk out of this store empty-handed, and I have yet to leave without bearing the expression of :-3 as there's always something to be found. It is what Radio Shack wants to be when it grows up but never will.
Registration for AX is set! But I think I shall pre-register for Otakon as well while I'm at it.
Hm, my desktop PC is two years old now and I've thought about upgrading. It's also still the newest computer here. The PowerBook I'm constantly using? Four years old. My first PowerBook that I still have? Seven years.
Gadgetry: SATA/IDE/USB2 interface device! Kinda crappy out of the box, but I'm not done testing this just yet. I powered it up, and the supply portion immediately grew warm, made an unpleasant noise and then an unpleasant smell. It literally died in my hand. The converter device itself remains unaffected. If it didn't cost so damn little, I'd take it back for a refund. Thankfully it mates with a standard computer power supply, so that's still useful but the lack of a dedicated supply makes it a little more difficult to use. I shall find out how it handles an actual hard drive later this evening, notably one that I've designated as "retired".
Here's to strange dreams. Cheers.
