Went to my mom's for Christmas, gave her a bunch of surprise gifts (because Christmas Evening is still Christmas), and then came home. Not much loot-wise for myself; I've been Santa for a few years now.

Car stuff: Turns out, [livejournal.com profile] aichan95 needs a whole muffler. Cheap thing I put on 3 years ago rusted itself in half. So I put the old one on (yes I kept it in the shed all this time) and cruising like that until sometime early next week when I can have a new one put on. I could do that myself again, but there's a huge difference in the weather from September and December. To hell with freezing my hands and ass and everything off, I think I can pay someone else to do that this time. A luxury I'm willing to indulge in. Anyway the zen of it is that on Integras, the exhaust is almost a consumable item. Like a timing belt but somewhat less expensive.

Test drove another RSX-S today, this one an '06. Everything came back to me, I knew exactly what to expect. This is a good thing. Things are moving forward in regards to getting another one. Money is getting socked away, numbers getting crunched and looking good. If I have to finance anything it'll be a small fraction that could be paid off in a year or less. The longer I wait, the more the gap closes. The only drawback of getting an '05 or '06 is that I'd probably have to get new repair manuals. Then again they would probably still be under warranty for awhile.

Naturally I won't be doing a trade. There's no point. I'd get next to nothing for a car that turns 14 next month and with more miles than some spacecraft, yet still runs and has been paid off since 2002.

After I got home last night I went around, collecting all paper items and tossing them into a tub for sorting later. A bit inefficient compared to sorting on the fly, but it lets me get the crap off the floor or whatever in the meantime, and the sorting can be done while sitting. While I was at it, I also picked up all of the empty plastic bags, and have filled two giant trashbags worth. At some point I'll take those over to the grocery store and deposit them in their bag collection box if it's not overflowing (keeping the trashbags for later use though).

When I get back into Harvest Mode, where I go around collecting particular classes of items and objects, I'll drop the thermostat to 60. That's cold when sitting in a chair in front of the computer but when constantly walking around and moving stuff, it's quite nice.

Maybe all this cleaning does clear my mind. Constantly moving, sifting, sorting, deciding what goes and what stays. Maybe it doesn't clear my mind. While in full swing, all I can think of is why I haven't started on this project before. Why I let it get to this point.

I know this would go a lot faster if my friend/roommate was still here, but my solution is a lot pickier than "toss out everything in complete annihilation".

Sorting through loads of paper. Keep, toss, or shred. Anything I don't need but has my SSN, driver's license number, or full bank account numbers goes to the shred bin. There's more that can be simply tossed than what gets shredded, and there's more that gets shredded than kept. A good sign. A victory for paperless statements!

A jar of peanut butter? It's unopened, but have I really let go this much? Dang.

Today I took up the giant box of paper to recycling, as well as all the cans and bottles and spent cardboard. Despite taking a carload worth, it doesn't seem like I got much out. Nothing seems to have changed. But it never does, and I expect that.

Note to self: While using a really big box for collecting scrap paper is convenient, that convenience disappears when it's time to lift and move the box.

Now going around and collecting all computer parts and electronic parts and devices. That seems to be making an impact, I'm starting to see floorspace. It's still crazy, I still have a long way to go. Thinning out but still there.

Sorry, I don't have any "before" pictures. Maybe I'll have some "after" pictures. Those of you that have visited here might actually notice a difference.

Had a nap while iTunes was going, and woke up to the Excel Saga ending theme. Eh I think I'm done for the night.
