and now a much less out-there post
Feb. 22nd, 2009 11:39 amHm, I've just realized that the previous four posts were done from my phone.
Katsucon was... Interesting. Went to the maid cafe they had going on (of course), which had some problems of its own, but I think they were able to work around them and it was fun enough to justify the effort. It also meant a couple meals that helped me avoid KatsuPlague. Par for the course for an anime convention, I'll leave it at that. Registration is best described as Someone Screwed Up. However bad as it may have been, I've heard tales of far worse. YMCK and Aural Vampire concerts were awesome. Both groups were quite fan-friendly.
Katsucon was also Nozomi-chan's first anime convention. I doubt she knew much about what was going on, as I had to park in an underground garage in an office building across the street from the hotel.
State inspection came and went. The place I go to for oil changes has started to offer inspections with practically no appointment necessary. I just call them up and ask how busy they are, since it takes about an hour. They know me and the girls, I know them. Only drawback to this method is if any heavy work needs done then I'm kinda on my own because they don't have the full facilities to do everything needed, but I usually keep my ducks in a row anyway. A far cry from before when I'd have to make an appointment at a garage, take it in the night before, hope they don't find something majorly wrong, and then rush home from work to pay the bill.
Convenience = progress: Y/N?
As for Nozomi-chan having an online presence, that will take awhile. It was a year before
yamikochan got one, and
aichan95 was about 9 when she finally got one. All in due time.
I really need to stay away from the ClubRSX online store. It's dangerous to look at. I do not need to be tempted by a Stage 2 brake upgrade kit. Really. Or not yet. Ok, fine, I'll keep it in mind. Sorry, am I drooling?
I've decided to stop taking my PC to anime club entirely. It is not portable enough for me to keep doing that. It's a rather heavy beast in the first place, not to mention all the support hardware that I take with it. Plus, every time I haul it around I can't help but think of what would happen if it slips out of my hands for whatever reason. There's not much point in taking my computer when several other people bring their laptops anyway. To that end I still need to arse myself to get a new laptop.
Also, one of the hard drives in it died an early death, and I'll need to check if it's still under warranty. It was one of the 500G's in a RAID setup too. It was acting up anyway, causing my computer to take forever to boot up, so I got everything off of it while I could and was able to dodge that bullet.
With the other hard drive that was suddenly freed up, I partitioned it and took a bold step into the Land of Linux and put Ubuntu on it. I thought about Fedora, but some of the aggravation I've witnessed leads me to believe that will have to wait for another time. More on this adventure later.
Weirdshift this week. Suddenly I could go for some smoked cheese.
