The other day I dreamt I was staffing at Otakon. That was purely fictional, as I would not staff Otakon.

600th LJ entry GET! But it's not as impressive a get as say, 500 or 1,000 or something like that.

Last weekend I saw a needless tragedy unfold before my eyes: A little girl, must've not been a day over 6, watched her ice cream cone slide out of her hands and hit the ground because she could not eat it faster than it was melting. There was nothing I could do to console the child, who was then openly and understandably mourning her loss. It was inevitable, her parents gave her a serving that was about as big as the one I got. It locked her in a losing battle against the afternoon sun; the kind of battle that even full-grown adults such as myself have also lost.

Recently I calculated that if I put an extra $120 a month towards [livejournal.com profile] nozomichan05's loan, it'll lop off about a year, finishing in the Christmas 2010 timeframe. The idea of paying off a car in such a relatively short time is a very palatable one indeed. This shall be promptly implemented! To facilitate this aggressive tactic, I'm going to take things easier on the fandom front.

Such as: Until further notice, I shall be commuting to any and all conventions inside of a three-hour driving range, and I reserve all rights to attend for only one day or abstain altogether from any of them as I see fit. The only exceptions are for Otakon this year because pre-reg and hotel has already been set, and for AUSA in general because, well, I'm on staff. Drastic, I know. But that's just how I roll.

Been noticing that lately I've had to frequently reset my wireless router. Mine is almost 5 years old. Do these things wear out?

Hey, we've had to do the same thing lately at home -- ours is only 3 years old this summer. Good question!

Mine's been going out by not letting connections through. My laptop sees a full-strength signal, but then has trouble loading sites. Actually all of the computers on the network do that, then power-cycling the router helps.

Exactly...everything seems to be okay and working, but then the "page cannot be found" error pops up.

They were both netgear.

Hm, I shall remember that.

Using a different brand this time?

I was borrowing a linksys from a friend of mine. The two netgears that i had before were actually used and given to me by said friend.

I thought I would give netgear one more shot and just ordered a new one. hopefully this time it will do me well. it had good reviews.

Most computer products need to keep on a steady, clean power supply (i.e. UPS) to ensure longevity. Even then, they'll die. I picked one up for $1 at a yard sale and it's been working fine.

To that end, most of them usually have some external heat-generating block of a power supply that usually takes the brunt of electrical glitches, and may or may not pass that glitch on to the main device.

What's sad is that replacing that power supply is almost as expensive as a new router.

FYI, my first cable modem (that died after a year) is the same brand as the router (that's still in use) and was hooked into the same power strip.

And you MUST come to Anime South. Catch a ride with Steve!

I don't think it's the drive that bothers him (or me), what he's probably scared of is going from "attendee" to "con-chair" in under 48 hours.
