Ok, so I went to Otakon this weekend, like I've done since 1995. Saw MELL and Naomi Tamura in concert, de-tuned the maidar for my own good (but otherwise left it on), bought a few things (in that "more than expected but less than I potentially could have spent" range), bounced around the con, took a few pictures, and when it was all over I burned home in about an hour.

Aside from that, I watched a couple episodes of "Umineko Naku Koro Ni". Definitely the same flavor as the Higurashi franchise, and definitely a few scenes that will catch you off guard and put you on edge.

Uhh, yeah. I think I'm gonna call it a night.

So you went after all!

I started playing/reading (what word is it really.. ^^; ) the visual novel for Umineko just the other day, actually. I haven't seen any of the anime yet but I started the VN on recommendation that it was much better, though I suppose that's probably pretty much always the case. The demo (including all of part 1 of 4) is free, though I worry that it'll hook me and then end D:

Also kind of shocked that so far at least (and all my spots for characters to meet in the menu are full), there's only one loli :< but I won't let it stop me!

As for Umineko, my plan is to start with the anime, then when I get to the visual novels, it'll be that much more of a treat. This plan is in effect for Higurashi as well.

Hm, thinking of Maria cosplay? If so, pack extra 'u's.

I somehow never get around to actually watching anime so I'm pretty content just doing the VN, though I'm sure after that I'll get curious enough to at least watch a couple episodes and see how it compares. I'll probably get to Higurashi as well :D even though I'm a bit spoiled on that thanks to the anime being popular.

I also am completely broke now and thus unable to afford legal copies of the games >_> and I'm kind of sad to think of pirating them because the English translators emphasize not doing that and claim that the patch won't even work.

It's mostly laziness on my part for not gettin the VN's so far, but since someone is porting the Higurashi ones for sale in the US, that may change.

The nice thing about Umineko cosplay is that the outfits would be perfectly acceptable in a restaurant that requires formal attire to be served.
