The other evening I was looking at the website for Shirakawa-go, which was renamed to Hinamizawa for you-know-what. The site makes no mention of its animated appearance, and the anime makes no mention of the area's World Heritage status. That being said, one can expect there will be differences. One of which is the fact that in the anime, they didn't take kindly to outsiders, while in reality the lodging listings for Shirakawa-go is about as long as most major airports. (Granted, any one hotel near BWI could handle more than all of Shirakawa-go's inns combined, but that's beside the point.) Effectively, it's well on its way to becoming a tourist trap, if it hasn't already done so. Doesn't mean I wouldn't go though. 'Cuz I would.

Meanwhile, the Silent Hill crowd gets Centralia. [livejournal.com profile] rubian77, I'm sure you could go on at length about that place. What's sad is that a casual observer is more likely to see someone dress up like Pyramid Head in Centralia than seeing Higurashi cosplay in Shirakawa-go. Not impossible, and I'm sure it's already been done, but not as likely.

Uh, let's see... Watched an episode of "Princess Lover" which looks like standard fanservice/harem anime; count me in. And on [livejournal.com profile] hallucino's suggestion, also watched some "Astro Fighter Sunred", which is straight from the crazy side of Awesometown. I still need to watch more of "K-On", the only thing slowing me down was waiting on widescreen versions. Heh, I can't believe I've gotten to that point. Also started on "Queen's Blade", the kind of show that nobody really watches for plot or character development.

So it goes.
