Mar. 8th, 2010 05:45 amTekkoshocon: Highly unlikely. I'd like to go and all but see below about my experience with cheap tires. I'll see what tricks I have up my sleeve when the time comes.
CHS Otakufest: I pre-registered for this. Last year it was fun, it was close, it was cheap. Most importantly, it was fun.
Balticon: Likely going to this again. See above.
Otakon: Juggernaut convention of the East Coast, but less than an hour away! Yeah, I'm going.
Tigercon: It's hard to beat free, it's hard to beat close, it's impossible to beat both.
Zenkaikon: I'll have to make a decision on this before I go, lest I have a repeat of last year's failed attempt. It kinda sucks to get all the way there only to find "sorry, con's full, registration is closed".
AUSA: Of course. I don't know what I'll be doing again, but that's just how I roll.
So why the emphasis on conventions that are close, when I've been known to thunder across the terra, going to conventions in far-flung places across the land? I dunno, I guess I'm starting to feel some burnout from going to these all the time and the closer ones mean putting less effort into them. Thus, my travel resources get used on other things that would allow me to see more. It's why I've largely abandoned events like AWA, which had turned into a thinly veiled road trip at the end and my reasoning had become "I don't need a convention as an excuse to take a road trip anymore".
Now, about that snafu with Tekko: What with
It was not my choice to buy them, they were already installed prior to sale (cheapskate fuckers) and I figured I might as well see how they held up. Well, I'm finding out. One of them had been going flat all the time for the past couple months. Today I discovered it was in bad enough shape that I opted to put the donut on instead. I don't know if I hit something, or if it was just defective or what. I mean, it was BAD, as in "bricks were shat". Oh well, tires were a calculated expense from the time she joined the family. It just means I'm dropping a grand on tires sooner than expected. Yeah I know that's a lot for tires but 17" OEM wheels will do that.
Gah. /rant
I think I'm gonna watch some more Omamori Himari. This show made my day, and I'm only on the 3rd episode.
