An excerpt from a phone call earlier today in regards to a possible service for my card:

Me: "No, I'm not interested in any payment protection plans for my card."

Sales rep: "Well, I'm not interested in a short phone call today."

Click. (This is where I hang up when he starts going on about the benefits of the payment protection plan. I assume everyone figured that, but I felt I should clarify this.)

Something's gotta give. Tough shit, dude.

Dude, I would cut that card off....or at least complain to his manager.

*Every* card company tries to get customers to sign up for that service. Most of them get the idea after the 2nd "no".

The process is the same for all of them: Call a bunch of times in one week, then if there's any rejection or no answer, move on, then try again a few months later. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Usually, but in this case a long phone call would have meant money for him.

It's expected that sales people will be somewhat pushy, but this one was trying to raise the bar.

How did he expect you to react to something like that?

I think he was expecting me to sign up for the service. He had forgotten one small detail: just because it's his job to sell, it doesn't obligate me to buy a damn thing.

I hated having to sell people shit like that. When I worked at a call center I really wanted to just help them with their problem and get them off the phone But my bosses got on to me about not selling. So I quit.
