Today was one of those days. And in a good way.

Didn't go into work for overtime. Instead drove down to Fairfax for anime goodness and friends. Plus I finally hunted down a copy of Gokudo vol. 6. Saw some Princess Nine, Chobits (Serial Fanservice Lain), and some Saikano. Got to see the last episode of Chobits, in which everyone dies. Just kidding. That's for the real feature for me, Saishu Heiki Kanojo, which can be classified in the Grab some Prozac and Zoloft for This One category. Think of all hell breaking loose in Karekano. When I saw Now and Then, Here and There about a month or so ago, it was quite disturbing, as the last three episodes of it made End of Evangelion look like Sesame Street. But for Saikano, there was an actual warning put in by the fansubbers that said if you didn't want to see the show get even more depressing, stop now and pretend it ends with episode 10. Naturally I want to see the rest. It's hard to imagine it being any more depressing than it already is but oh well.

During the big stretch of Chobits (artwork is very nice, but the story is indeed an acquired taste) I was standing out in the hallway talking with some friends, some I knew and some I didn't. One was talking about what it means to have a life, and why he prefers to not have one in the typical sense of the word. And it made sense. We are out, running with others of our own kind. Ask someone who has a life, and what they do with it in their spare time. Watch cable TV all evening? Work 70 hours a week? That's a life? For me, it's about going to places unseen, and witnessing things that would be difficult to imagine that they were conceived by a human mind. Imagine tens or hundreds or thousands of people in one place, all there for the same reason as you. You know that odds are, whoever is sitting next to you is going to Get the Same Joke as You. You are doing Something, and you are being accepted for it.

Got home around 2 in the morning. Tired.
