psipsyThis winter doesn't seem to be out of the ordinary yet. As long as we don't get a repeat of last year's SnowToilet, I'm fine with that. Last week there was about a foot of snow here, so while that sounds like a lot, and it is; it doesn't quite have the same shock and awe compared to almost four feet of snow.
Last month I had to survive 4 weeks on 3 weeks of pay (not just me, they changed up the payroll at work impacting THOUSANDS of people) but I had a plan, and the plan worked. It meant missing out on a convention or two, but it's not like I don't already go to half a dozen of them per year. At peak, I was going to about 9 a year. If I drop that down to 5 or 6 I won't complain. (One of my friends working for Hendane has effectively lost count of how many he goes to in a year.)
Katsucon is coming up, and I'll be going to that in some capacity, hopefully more than the 5 hours I was there last year. Unless the weather turns to complete crap that weekend.
A month later is Zenkaikon. I like this one, it has potential. I tried going to it in 2009 but they hit attendee cap by Saturday morning so my trip out there wasn't as fruitful as I wanted, salvaged only by a side trip to MicroCenter and the Lego store. And Cheesecake Factory. Anyway, what it has going for it is a lot of things: It's big enough for things to be going on, small enough to not be a high-priced hassle, and if you go with a crew of friends, that makes it all the better. (Of course, that last bit can make ANY convention better.)
There are a few more after that but I'll work on those as they come.
