Speeding and Zen
Oct. 3rd, 2001 02:19 amHeh. Today I got busted for speeding. It wasn't as bad as it used to be for me, a mild nuisance at worst now. Eh, I'm just gonna pay it and move on. Mainly because I was actually speeding, (75 in a 55 zone) and the cop cut me a break. Marked the speed on the ticket a bit lower than what he originally told me, and thusly saved me about $60, cutting it down to $70. If that happened in PA, it would have been about $140. It's that low because it was in Maryland. Granted, I would have really liked it if I just got a warning, but at 20 over the limit the chances of that are mighty slim. The whole process was quick, too. I was on the road again in about 5 minutes. Maybe the faster he got done with me, the sooner he could move onto someone else. Hey, he's got a job to do. He's got a job, at least.
Another thing to consider is: Of all the things I've done while driving, getting a mere speeding ticket at all is getting off easy. Karma's been VERY kind to me so far. If I were caught for everything I've done, I probably wouldn't be allowed near a car. Then again, a lot of people wouldn't be.
This isn't the first time I've been pulled over, and it won't be my last. There's a bit of freedom that comes from having an imperfect driving record. I don't have to be overly careful about not the actual driving, but protecting that perfect driving record. So mine has had a few scratches. That happens. It just shows I make mistakes. It's a good sort of normal, I suppose.
Hey, maybe it'll mean I'll get less junk mail from insurance companies extolling my driving record. Not likely, but it could happen.
And another thing... Never post something online while heavily drunk. ^_^; Those of you that tuned in during a certain 12-hour period last week may have noticed the results of such.
