Google Maps is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it's great for getting a visualization of somewhere without needing to physically be there. It's a very useful and powerful tool. For example, such as figuring out how to handle a potentially tricky intersection ahead of time. And if StreetView goes back far enough, it's like going back in time, to see what places were like if they no longer exist or changed drastically. Then, more often than not, I'll be zooming around in Maps or Google Earth, looking at assorted places, and something will come up that catches my eye. And it piques my interest so much that the only way to satisfy that interest is to go there in person. Travel is about the novelty and experience. Seeing somewhere through a computer screen is easier but isn't the same; nowhere near it. That's why I have a passport with stamps from Japan in it.

Leading up to my 2019 trip, I noticed that a stretch of I-80 through Indiana went within a mile or two of the state line for Michigan. At one of those points, I discovered the last Hot N' Now restaurant in existence. Those used to be all over the place here. Not that they were good, and I wouldn't have made a dedicated trip just for it, but I figured my route would take me close enough to it that I could justify a slight detour.

I thought about getting a CB radio for installing in one of the cars. Instead I got a battery-powered handheld one. It's not very strong though. But it does pick up the NOAA weather bands, which is also useful. That said, my road trips often involve places where cellular coverage isn't a guarantee.

Still haven't gotten Ai's inspection done. I would almost feel bad about that except I'm seeing cars going around here with inspection stickers that expired whole years ago. Soon though. She's almost done. I lack both opportunity (time) and urgency (two other cars at the ready) to finish things up. Then there are other tasks that will need done, which I'm harvesting parts for. My refrigerator is increasingly getting covered in RockAuto magnets, and most of my ebay history is literally a junkyard.

In a bout of anime convention nostalgia, I'm having a commission done of a banner/promo for a fictional anime convention that would have taken place in the late '90s. It is somewhat lewd, by intention and design. I pitched the idea to the artist who liked the idea and was very enthusiastic about it. This fictional joke convention is called "OshiriCon". No idea when the picture will be completed.
