Mar. 5th, 2022 02:46 amInternet's not closed, but it might as well be. It's all vtubers and idols and gacha waifus now.
Speaking of waifus, Nozomi is going to be due for inspection this month. I doubt she'll need anything, as she only saw about 8000 miles in the past year. Only 8000! That's less than half of what she normally does in a year. Almost an insult. Ai is due for an oil change, but Ai being Ai, really only needs the filter replaced, because she constantly needs oil added. Leaking it, burning it, both at the same time. Fixing that requires going deep. I think I can start doing some real work on her when we get out of "painfully cold" weather and it's not so cold that any tools or parts literally suck the heat out of my hands. 50F/10C seems to be that lower limit.
Katsucon was alright. I wasn't there for long. On Saturday, a friend and I initially wanted some Ledo's pizza but they were only doing carryout, so we opted for a gritty hole-in-the-wall chicken wing joint in one of the seediest strip malls that Prince George's County has to offer. And you know what? It was some damn good chicken. Then I dropped my friend off at his hotel, and decided that going home for the night was a good idea. Then I went back again on Sunday, also for a few hours.
So far I haven't really tried out the train-show Minolta yet. It seems to be functional with the shutter and mechanicals, and the batteries are a pair of easy-to-find coin cells. I put some of the lenses on an adapter for my T3i so I can get an idea of the visual quality. I just haven't run any film through it yet.
Gathering more things for my upcoming attempt at DIY film developing. As much as I could just leave it to somewhere to develop the rolls, that's gotten a lot more expensive than it used to be. Shooting 4 rolls of film would cost more than what I paid for my film camera and lens. The selection of film seems to have changed over the past few years. I can still get FujiFilm and Kodak easily, and I'm also seeing an increase in "artistic" films, where the formulation is slightly altered to give different effects on the image. Too soon to say if film is making a comeback though.
Know what I'd like to see make a retro comeback? Art Deco.
