psipsyEarlier this month, I was on a week-long business trip in Phoenix. Business trips are a double-edged sword: Yeah I get to visit different places but ultimately I still have to work and show something for the effort, so I didn't get to see much. Well, I take that back: I did get to enjoy the "scenery" at Ojos Locos, where the waitresses wear outfits that make Hooters look tame. My seat was facing the door leading into the kitchen, so every time a waitress walked through, I got an eyeful of jiggly butt riding on a pair of thigh-high boots. I make no excuses or apologies for who I am or what I'm about.
Dirty-old-man tendencies aside.... The summer anime season had some strong shows. Suspicious HotSauce Maid, Overlord, more Love Live, the Odd Taxi movie, Maou-sama, Teppen, Call of the Night. I watched all of the Arsnotoria show and can't figure out what the hell it was about. I might never know, that's just how it's gonna be, and I'll have to accept that.
There are also some Chinese-produced shows making their way over. The one about the 5000-year-old dragon was good. I really needed subtitles for that because they were speaking in Chinese and I can't pick out anything discernable.
The fall season looks busy. More Spy Family, Uzaki-chan, and Pop Team Epic, reboots of Urusei Yatsura and Digi Charat, and a few new ones: My Master Has No Tail and Akiba Maid Wars. I thought Akiba Maid Wars was going to be cute and fluffy maid fanservice but I was wrong. So very wrong.
UY means a lot to me. The original series is the one that pulled me past the point of no return into anime. How was the new one? It was good. Ataru's new voice actor is close enough and good enough. Lum's new voice is spot-on. The show kinda had to choose new voice actors, and they chose wisely.
There's more MolCar but the episodes on YT are currently region-locked to Japan. Of course, someone eventually captured the streams and made torrents of them.
Anyway, whenever there are slow seasons, or when it's winter and I don't feel like going anywhere, I'll catch up on the backlog and binge-watch some shows. I might even write some reviews on them.
