Apr. 26th, 2024 05:03 amIt's getting to be that time of year when my own PTO balance is looking back at me, as if to say "Well? We gonna do something or not?" Of course we are. That's how it usually is; I'll go the first 4 months without touching my PTO then I unload when the weather turns nice. I've mentioned before, when the weather is cold and yucky, I don't feel like going anywhere if I don't have to.
There were some model paints I was looking to get. Then I saw that none of the stores nearby had the ones I needed in stock, or the stores that did have them were 80 miles away, so I just bought them online (non-Amazon). The price of shipping is less than what I would have spent on gas, and I didn't have to wait until the weekend when I could get to the places that would have them.
M3 is this weekend. As usual, I wish I could be there. A lot of the CDs I would get are going to be on BOOTH or Bandcamp as a physical CD or digital download, or eventually show up on Surugaya. Between all of those options, the shipping would cost far less than what I would spend on a plane ticket to Japan. But I'd rather actually be in Japan for M3. Nevertheless, each M3 brings new music.
For whatever unknown reason, I looked at the yard-sale line trimmer and thought "I can get this working. There's not much to it." A quick search yielded a full tune-up kit including a whole new carburetor for less than 20 bucks. Well shit, I should have gotten this from the start. Except that still didn't fix it. Naw, I'm done. Sometimes I'll try to fix something and it just doesn't want to be fixed. Then I bought a whole new trimmer, put it together, added fuel, and it started right up. Now THAT'S what I should have done from the start. Next up: Giving my legal-drinking-age lawn mower a tuneup.
Sometimes I have dreams where I'll buy an absolute basketcase of a car, where every major system has a major problem due to either age or sketchy modifications, everything is worn out, and parts are all but impossible to find. I blame watching some of the videos on Youtube where people do exactly that. They'll take a car that most people would have given up on, and then fix it and get it running again.
Gadget: Looking at new Bluray players because the one I got 14 years ago is starting to show its age. One that would meet my requirements would cost about $150. Panasonic makes one that costs $1100. And a company called Magnetar makes one that costs as much as $3000. That by itself is nuts; what's even crazier is how there are individual HDMI cables that can cost more. I like image quality. But I have limits. I suspect I wouldn't see a difference between that and more economical cables.
I think I should also get a cassette tape deck. The kind that connects to a fancy audio system. Yeah.
