Anyway...

Once upon a time, there was an entry that I was going to put in. I had it written up and just about ready to go. Then I deleted it. Fully conscious and intentionally. Why? Because I thought that at the time I was writing it, it was a good idea, but when I was ready to post, it wasn't a good idea anymore. And I did what I did, because it's my journal. But I might post those thoughts again someday.

So I'm sitting here in Borders writing this up, as I make good use of their WiFi. Surrogate broadband, I would call it. Gotta pay for the service, and considering what the monthly cost is, it really isn't bad at all. Scrapped Princess #19 cruised through the air at over 100k/second. Already saw it, but I'm getting a better version.

For those of you that are familiar with the history of fansubbers, it's like this: First there was Arctic Anime, then there was Hecto, and now there is AnimeJunkies. If you know about any one of them, then that should give you fair warning about the other two. Dealing with them is not unlike if say, you were on a long car trip, and got hungry somewhere, and stopped at a greasy diner. Upon entering, you would know immediately that you were in for a rough time. The cook looks like he simply hates life, and prepares the food thusly. When you ask when you'll get your food, he gruffly says something along the lines of "whenever it's done". A drink? Tap water in a dirty glass. So the food does arrive, and it's either undercooked or overdone or both at once. If that's a meat-based dish you ordered, odds are it's made of roadkill. Don't ask where the plates are stored. Half the time you can't even finish it because your appetite has suddenly vaporized, and if you do finish it, you run the risk of coming down with something. But, the one thing about it all, is that it's so insanely cheap that you can't pass it up in the first place. You pay the tab. No tip, of course. Anyway, that's what those three fansubbers remind me of. Hard to read fonts, grammatical errors galore indicating that the show was translated through 4 languages and no one inline knew English very well, and overall playability problems. I remember watching some Akazukin ChaCha from Arctic, and the video would go in and out, and the subtitles could give an English teacher a coronary. Hecto wasn't much better. AnimeJunkies gives a lot of people problems encoding in an off-beat resolution and blatant translating errors and the aforementioned font goofiness. At least they're free and there's no concern over sending in tapes and wondering if you'll ever see them again.

Isn't technology wonderful?

Something for the faithful.

Well, this place is about to close soon and I have four BTs that aren't going to finish tonight. And my laptop's battery is almost drained. But that's ok, because I shouldn't stick around too long in any one place like that.
