It's 1995, and I've just passed the point of no turning back as an anime fan!
Fansubs were mail-order, unless you knew someone that already had a copy of what you were looking for.
When a show came out in Japan, it would be weeks, months, or even years before it would be seen here.
VHS tapes were the norm, SVHS was special, and Laser Disc was the format of choice for top quality.
Commercial VHS tapes were a bargain if they were under $30. LDs were usually no less than $60.
Copying 5 hours worth of anime took 5 hours.
Getting Pocky meant a long drive to an Asian food store.
If a comic book store had some of those Japanese anime magazines, like Newtype, they were worth returning to.
Practically everything that ADV offered showed boobs.
Conventions were few and far between.
Suncoast's anime selection, while having taken root, was still quite meager in many places.
The Sci-fi network was the only channel that showed anime, and only when it wanted to.

It's 2003, and I'm somehow still into anime!
Fansubs of just about every non-commercially released anime can be had in under an hour after a click of a mouse button or a couple keystrokes.
When a show comes out in Japan, it's here in a matter of hours or days, if not already here.
VHS/SVHS are dying breeds, LD is considered largely obsolete, despite sometimes having slightly better picture quality than the new mainstream, DVD.
Copying 5 hours worth of anime can take as little as 15 minutes.
Commercial VHS tapes are on closeout shelves for a fraction of the original cost. DVDs can cost more than $30 at times, but they invariably have some goodies that justify the extra cost.
Getting Pocky means a trip to the mall.
Suncoast's anime selection usually fills up an entire wall.
One can go into a Wal-mart and watch ADV's ad for Hello Kitty, and pick up the English version of Newtype.
There's about as many conventions a year as there are weekends.
Anime is available on many channels, as well as it's own network.

Now, could someone tell me... wtf happened?

Ah well, gonna get out of Borders in a few minutes and buzz over to UMBC and check out a bit of their 24-hour marathon.
