The Great Bobaloony predicts!
May. 3rd, 2004 07:37 pmRecently got word that Green Green has been licensed, although it's still unclear as to who has it now. This is in line with my anime predictions for this year. It's sort of a no-brainer, really. That show is too crazy to remain hidden. I have a hunch that ADV has it, seeing as how they've been buying everything lately. Anyway, I predict....
Gunslinger Girls will be announced either at or before Anime Expo, and ADV will stake the claim. Of course, Anime Expo is where about half the year's announcements take place. Same goes for the Live Action version of Sailor Moon, tho I can see less of a chance of ADV getting that one for some reason.
I see... Bottle Fairy getting picked up this year. The pure cuteness of the whole thing has surely grabbed someone's attention. Planetes, MadLax, Kono Minikukumo Utsukushii Sekai, Bakuretsu Tenshi all look promising for getting picked up sometime this year due to lots of action and/or sci-fi stuff. If Eiken gets grabbed, it'll probably be put out under a hentai label. Then I could really see it happening.
Same conditions apply to Popotan, G-on Riders, UFO Princess, as well as Ultra Maniac and Da Capo. Maria-sama ga Miteru has a chance, but considering the high yuri overtones of the show, it might not have much of a chance to get licensed. This one would really have to be presented right, and to the right people. There is a market for that sort of thing, but it's the kind of market that would take effort to tap.
Probables for this year: Shingetsutan Tsukihime, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu!, Sister Princess Repure, and Galaxy Angel season 3, because a lot of signs seem to be pointing at them, either because of hints through official websites or the fact that previous seasons or original series have been picked up.
Licensing wish-list: Maico 2010, Pita Ten, Bobobo, Kanon, Sakigake! Cromaritie High. I have a hunch that it'll be more than a year before these get snatched up, but I could be wrong. After all, it was Sister Princess that caused me to swear that never again will I be surprised when something gets licensed, because if that show can get picked up, ANYTHING can. Hence, I call it the "Sister Princess Protocol."
Now the batteries are starting to die in my crystal ball, so I shall put it away for the time being.
