I have no idea what the original purpose of this structure was, but I felt it was cool enough to take a picture of.

And for something entirely different, here is a picture of a 20-year old VCR that still works. Got it for free over 10 years ago, and paid less than $2 to make it functional. Feel the old-skool vibes emanating from it.

Oh, I'm sure it's possible, it would just be a matter of having the siding and roof put through the proper treatment. I think the magic word for that would be "creosote."

Okay. First, the projection from the roof at the near end was obviously to support a block and tackle. Something was hoisted up by that means and then swung into the door just below that. Whatever that something was must have had to proceed downward through some milling or other mechanical process that required a fair amount of height. I have to admit that I'm confused by the openings halfway up, possibly access to the machinery that was there so that parts could be swung in at that level for repairs or replacement of parts that wore out fairly frequently.

How's that?

It's not surprising that it would be industry-related, as that area has a history of mills and such scattered in that area as far back as the 18th century. Plus it's entirely too small to be a house, unless it applies the Snoopy's Doghouse Effect, where the interior space is greater than the exterior.

While the building looks like it's been vacated for a long time, you may notice in the larger image between the front corner and the plank of wood covering the doorway, some utility hookups. Whether they're still in use or not is unknown. Unlikely, as I haven't seen any wires or such going to it.

So yeah, I think your guess is a very good one.
