Yay, I made it home. With countless bugs on
yamikochan's front bumper, 940 roundtrip miles, and a blister on my one of my toes, I'm home.
Sunday morning, there were two events of interest to me, one was the Geneon panel where KOTOKO showed up and answered questions from the audience members that woke themselves up early enough to attend. Some of this is stuff that a lot of KOTOKO fans may already know, but here goes. One of her biggest musical influences is Bjork, her favorite song that she's done is "Wing My Way" (can't argue with that), and when someone asked if she'd do a cowgirl outfit for A-kon, her answer was "Naisho." Also, she doesn't play many of the games she sings songs for because they're for the PC; (she uses a Mac) and the video games she likes to play are the fast & simple types. The Geneon representative also announced that her Winter Live concert (I think, its one of her concerts) is going to be on DVD here in North America. I curse myself for not taking some sort of notebook along for this! Eh, I would have forgotten to write a lot of stuff down anyway.
And then! For the couple hours inbetween the panel and the Sunday autograph session, I took that as an opportunity to check out of my room and whatnot, then get back to the Doubletree. Since I had "Glass no Kaze" signed yesterday, I would have "Hane" signed as well. I didn't buy the North American version (at least not yet; all in due time), but I had the Japanese version that I bought last year. So, she signed that, and I was happy-happy about it. Yay. But because of how the line worked, I never did get to take any kind of picture of her. But that's ok, because a memory like that will stick around even in an ADHD-addled brain like mine. Once I got that done, I started the grand journey home.
The trip to this convention was nothing short of an adventure, and the trip home equally so. As part of a road trip, it was deliciously complex! Usually when I go to conventions, it's just a matter of jumping on the interstates and cruising at some obscene speed on roads I've been down a zillion times before. This was far different, and thusly refreshing. I must have taken at least a dozen different routes, ranging from open highway to twisty rural backroads, and everything inbetween, and accompanied with much mellowness. It also made me use some of my directional wits, which I finally got to dust off with glee and relish. The weather on Friday could have been better, but I had no complaints about Sunday's. It's also nice when I can load up the CD changer and let them all play through non-stop.
One of my stops was to get something to eat at a Sheetz, and I'm sitting in my car eating some mac and cheese and then a bunch of guys with motorcycles start horsing around. Then they get the bright idea of riding around with one guy sitting on another's shoulders. And one of their friends is videotaping this. I saw this happening, and thought to myself, "No good can come of this." Fortunately they toodled around the parking lot like that at a speed someone could have kept up with on a bicycle. I left before finishing my food, because my statement was still valid, and I didn't want to stick around to verify that, or give an eyewitness account to the police that would eventually show up anyway because of those clowns. I mean, they weren't being malicious or anything, just self-destructively stupid. I should have taken a picture of it all.
Almost home, I stopped at a Rutter's to pick up some milk. I SWEAR someone was playing the Cowboy Bebop Movie soundtrack in there, or the song "Ask DNA" is getting regular radio play. The cashier told me he had nothing to do with the song selection. Yeah, just the mind-poke I needed after driving for about 9 hours.
But yeah, getting home in one piece is always good.
