Oh hey there.
Jul. 9th, 2006 11:21 amAnime reviews! Or something resembling that.
Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z: Ok, we all remember the original Powerpuff Girls that's been shown on Cartoon Network practically since the network first went live, right? You don't have to even like the original, just so long as you know what I'm talking about. Or something. I see the first episode for this come up, and I figure I should check it out. My initial reaction was basically WTF. This is the Japanese version of the show, and there are more differences than similarities. Small things like Miss Bellum never showing her face, or the Mayor acting like the usual dork, those have carried over. But other things like the girls themselves, who must be about ready to go into junior high in this series, Mojo Jojo who is no longer in the same size bracket as the girls but now looks like he injected some of King Kong's genes in him and where in hell did that dog come from? Anyway. It's like the Fourth Wall wasn't merely broken, but instead taken out back where it was beaten, raped and strangled, and then propped up backwards like nothing happened. I won't say that this show sucked, I'm just saying it's not what I'm used to seeing. Here, take a look and see what I mean.
Muteki Kanban Musume: This must be the year of anime characters that are crazy. Be it either Haruhi with her damn-the-torpedos-full-speed-ahead take on life, or the psychotic crew from Higurashi, it's an interesting batch. Ok, so this one is about Miki, working as a poster girl for her mother's noodle shop. Miki looks like a normal girl, but she's actually a tomboy who would much rather be either fighting or playing ball instead of working, which she's not all that good at. There's also a manga for this that's been available as "Noodle Fighter Miki", so if you get a chance, pick that up too.
Mamotte! Lollipop: Having only watched the raw for it, I honestly have yet to figure out what in the hell is going on with this one. The VW Bug versus a giant mechanized owl isn't helping any. Perhaps more later?
More anime to be watched in the near future, yes indeedy. Including something called "Harvey Fenkwelter's Cosmic Revenge." Eh, maybe.
End cut! We now return you to your regularly scheduled LJ. Thank you.
