So yeah, CHS Otakufest. It's a convention that if I didn't know any better, I could have sworn it was run by a bunch of kids in high school. Which it was, because it was located in a high school. And in that respect, it went rather well and made for a fun diversion for the day. It's not out to be some industry juggernaut determined to change fandom as we know it, it's a convention bashed together by a high school anime club that's reached its goal of putting on its own public event, which met its own goal of being fun. Bravo, CHS Anime club, bravo. Well done.

Seeing as how the convention itself officially wrapped up around 6pm, we ventured up to York for what was left of Anime Club there for the day. Conked out during Char's Counterattack because by then I had effectively crammed 3 days worth of activity into 1, had woken up much earlier in the day than I was used to, and it was catching up to me. And when I got home, I also discovered that I hadn't opened any windows or enabled the air conditioning, which made for a surprise tropical adventure in the comfort(?) of my own home.

Being as tired as I was, I've largely slept through much of today. But that's alright. I still woke up around my usual time albeit with an aggressively sore throat.

Anyway, back to working on my sister's computer that I said I'd have done by today (but obviously haven't).

Any cool costumes or events at the festival. How many were there?

Demographically, it was Ground Zero for teenagers in Naruto costumes with maybe a few adult attendees about. Which could have been a disaster at a hotel-based convention, but then being in a high school with faculty visibly present may have lent a sense of accountability.

I figure there was a couple hundred there, again mostly high-schoolers from the surrounding areas.

A couple of hundred? Not bad....

What was surprising was how far people came to be there. There were folks from the central portions of Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, so my drive from PA was not much in comparison. Then again it was slightly closer than my workplace.

Also surprising was that despite me being twice the age of most of the attendees, I didn't feel old.

I don't know if you've discovered Fisherman's Friend throat lozenges or not, but at even the hint of an oncoming sore throat, or even one that has progressed to the aggressive stage, they really do an amazing job of forestalling the cold that the sore throat prefaces. A friend of mine put me onto them when we were in Australia, and I've been grateful to him ever since. I keep a large supply on hand and one packet by my bed at all times. I hope your own sore throat hasn't developed into something really awful

Ooh, Fisherman's Friend! I've had some of those and am aware of their brutal effectiveness first-hand. The sore throat itself has since subsided, but thanks for the thought (and the reminder to pick up more of those).
